Microaggressions Definition

Microaggressions are subtle, everyday verbal, nonverbal, and environmental slights, snubs, or insults that often target marginalized or oppressed groups. These slights are often expressed in seemingly harmless comments or behaviors, but they can be extremely damaging because they send a message of exclusion and invalidation. Microaggressions can take the form of jokes, comments, or even body language. They are often unintentional, but they are always hurtful and can foster an environment of fear and intimidation.
